David Bailey

Director of Research and Development - Bishop Hogarth Catholic Education Trust

David is Director of Research & Development for Bishop Hogarth Education Trust and leads Carmel Research School. Previously, he was Regional Network Lead and Network Education Lead for STEM Learning, where he oversaw science CPD provision in Derbyshire, Yorkshire & Humber and the North East of England.  He works in a range of advisory and school improvement roles to support many schools in the region and beyond. He draws on over fifteen years of experience teaching Physics to ages 11-18, and over ten years of leadership including positions as middle and senior leader in three secondary schools.

He is currently leading the EEF/Wellcome Trust funded programme ‘Leadership Lite’, aimed at changing leadership culture in schools, in which 140 schools are participating in a randomised-controlled trial in hubs across the UK. He has also recently led two Strategic School Improvement Fund (SSIF) projects in the Tees Valley supporting a total of 17 schools in Science and Mathematics.

Through this work, he oversees the work of SLEs, school-based presenters and consultants in the delivery of continuing professional development. With a strong background in evidence-based practice, thinking skills and assessment, he uses this expertise to ensure delivery is highly effective. He also continues to support professional learning as a facilitator for Research School, TSST Physics and Leadership Lite programmes.

David continues to work in the classroom as part of this work, modelling lesson and mentoring and coaching teachers. The teachers and trainers that he has worked with are able to report and evidence a positive impact of this work on their pupils, leading to the award of STEM Learning Senior Facilitator status.
